Sculptor Jonathan Cox's style is dynamic and
expressive. His sculpture accentuates movement through space
utilizing line and form while demonstrating great attention
to craftsmanship.
As a young man, the artist built boats with
father. This experience greatly influenced his style. Most of
the works included in the show are monumental in scale. Even
the smaller works "feel" larger than they actually
are. Wood, stone and other materials are combined to reinforce
the artist's ideas.
Cox, an assistant professor at Marshall University,
received a B.F.A. in sculpture from the Rhode Island School
of Design and a M.F.A. in sculpture from the University of Florida.
He has an extensive exhibition record, including recent shows
at the Huntington Museum of Arts in Huntington, W.Va., Gulf
Coast Museum of Art in Largo, Fl., and the Orlando Museum of
Art in Orlando, Fl., and the Lowe Art Museum in Miami, Fl. Cox
has also been awarded several Gold Addy Awards for printmaking.
A recent work, entitled Discovery (link),
was purchased by the Huntington Museum of Art for its collection.
